Charging Ahead

The Southern Hemisphere’s first Gigahub™ has launched, making transport to and from the airport and across our region more planet friendly than ever.

Christchurch Airport is proud to welcome New Zealand’s first Gigahub™, delivered in partnership with bp. The new bp charge Gigahub™, located at bp Connect Russley Road, features 12 fast EV charge points and is designed to meet the growing demand for reliable electric vehicle infrastructure.

“Teaming up with bp on the Gigahub shows how strong partnerships can drive real progress in renewable transport solutions,” says Christchurch Airport CEO Justin Watson. “The EV charging hub aligns perfectly with our goals to enable sustainability across our campus.”

The Gigahub™ is bp’s first in the Southern Hemisphere, reinforcing bp’s commitment to supporting customers as they transition to more sustainable transport options. The station is easily accessible for Christchurch locals, rideshare drivers, business professionals and travelers hiring EVs.

bp New Zealand Head of Country, Haley Mahoney, highlights the importance of this new hub: “We know our customers are looking for solutions to meet their changing needs—whether it’s reliable fuel or fast EV charging. Being next to Christchurch Airport, this Gigahub™ will serve a diverse range of EV drivers.”

With sustainability at the heart of Christchurch Airport’s vision, the Gigahub™ complements our commitment to electrification—our corporate fleet has been fully electric since 2017, our first electric fire truck will be joining us soon, and we are on the journey to electrify the entire airport fleet by 2030.

This milestone represents a powerful step forward in shaping a greener land transport network, and we are proud to be taking a leadership role in promoting sustainable innovation.
