Singapore Airlines and Christchurch airport celebrate 40 years of connecting Ōtautahi Christchurch to Singapore and beyond
Today Christchurch Airport celebrated 40 years of Singapore Airlines flying to the city, marking four decades of connecting the South Island with Singapore and destinations around the world.
The anniversary was marked with a water arch welcome for the arriving A350 Singapore Airlines aircraft.
Christchurch Airport Chief Executive Justin Watson said Singapore Airlines’ 40-year connection with Christchurch was a significant milestone.
“Forty years is an extraordinary commitment and speaks volumes about the strength of Singapore Airlines’ relationship with Christchurch and the South Island.
“Over that time, the service has connected generations of travellers, supported tourism and trade and given South Islanders an important gateway to the world.
“We’re incredibly proud of the partnership we’ve built together and look forward to seeing it continue to grow in the years ahead.”
Singapore Airlines General Manager New Zealand, Wilson Yong, said the airline was proud of its long-standing connection with Christchurch.
“For 40 years, Singapore Airlines has been proud to connect Christchurch and the wider South Island with Singapore and destinations around the world,” Mr Yong said.
Singapore Airlines first began flying to Christchurch in 1986 and has since become one of the airport’s longest-standing international airline partners.
