Christchurch strengthens Australian links with new direct Perth service

Christchurch Airport continues to grow its Australian network, with Jetstar confirming new seasonal direct flights between Christchurch and Perth from October 2026 to March 2027.

Operating three times a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, the convenient non-stop service will add more than 30,000 seats over summer. The flights will be operated by Jetstar’s fleet of Perth based Airbus A321LRs and take just over seven hours.

With numerous and frequent domestic connections to Christchurch from all over the South and North Island, Western Australia just got one step closer.

Perth offers a sun-soaked getaway, known for its pristine beaches, relaxed outdoor lifestyle, sophisticated food and wine scene and easy access to Fremantle and Rottnest Island. This new direct route makes it easier than ever for Kiwis to enjoy Western Australia, while also allowing more Aussies to experience the South Island’s amazing landscapes, adventure and hospitality.

Along with accessing Western Australia, the service also connects to a number of Qantas group services including Bali, London, Paris, Johannesburg, Delhi and Rome making a convenient one stop option to some of the world’s great destinations.

The new route builds on the airport’s strong recent growth across the Tasman, including new Cairns and Adelaide services and increased flight frequencies to Melbourne. Perth will add to existing direct links to Sydney, the Gold Coast, and Brisbane.

Together, these seven destinations across the ditch cement the airport’s role as the South Island’s gateway to Australia.

Australia is now fully recovered to pre-Covid travel levels and remains the airports largest and most resilient international market, highlighting the importance of continuing to expand choice and capacity.

Christchurch Airport Chief Executive Justin Watson said the Perth service reflects building demand and a strong airline partnership.

“We are stoked to add another destination to our Australian network its fantastic news, it gives South Islanders even more choice and strengthens our ties with our most important market.

“Growing these connections supports tourism, business and trade, and ensures Christchurch remains a strong, competitive gateway for the South Island.”

Stephanie Tully, Jetstar CEO, said Jetstar is committed to its promise of making travel accessible for all Kiwis.

“We’re thrilled to be launching our new nonstop service between Christchurch and Perth, giving New Zealanders an affordable and convenient way to connect with Western Australia’s incredible beaches, vibrant food scene and outdoor adventures”.

Reece Whitby, Western Australia Minister for Tourism, said it is an important milestone for Western Australia.

“This service strengthens our connection to New Zealand, one of our most valuable international visitor markets, and supports our tourism industry."
