More than fifty-three-thousand South Islanders can't be wrong
... and even more will soon
holiday in Fiji, thanks to extra flights just announced for
Christchurch Airport.
Fiji Airways will begin a permanent second service each week
between Christchurch and Nadi in time for winter holidays in the
sun.
From June 23 2015, the airline will offer year-round Tuesday
morning departures to Fiji and on to North America, to complement
its existing Saturday service. The full service airline, in
two-class configuration, operates at family friendly hours to and
from Fiji.
Christchurch Airport General Manager Airlines and Alliances,
Matthew Findlay, says the extra flights are a response to
demand.
"Over the past 12 months, more than 53,000 South Islanders
travelled to and from Fiji and
North America with Fiji Airways," he says. "This new service
offers more choice
and convenience to those travellers, direct from their local
airport.
"A Fijian holiday can now be a quick dash from Tuesday to
Saturday, or a ten day stop ...
or longer still. Fiji Airways offers a network of choices to
points across the Pacific, on to Honolulu and throughout North
America. The short transit time in Nadi also gives exporters
a wider choice of getting products to market directly from
Christchurch with Fiji Airways."
Mr Findlay says Fijian holidays have long been popular for South
Islanders wanting to
escape the winter, especially because Fiji Airways discounts
airfares for children.
"Family Fijian holidays - and perhaps on to Disneyland from
there - just got a whole lot more do-able," he says. "We're sure
we're not the only ones excited about the new extra services."
Shannon Currie, Fiji Airways Regional General Manager NZ, says
the airline has added the flights to meet demand.
"Fiji Airways continues to go from strength to strength in the
South Island market, as demand through Christchurch grows from all
regions. The high demand has given us the confidence to boost
services and we look forward to welcoming more holidaymakers with
our price beating fares and full service".
