The list of finalists for the Airport Food and Beverage Awards
(FAB Awards) has been released, with the Christchurch finalist
amongst luminaries.
Airport bars in Ibiza, Dubai, Amsterdam, Chicago and London are
competing with the Christchurch Airport bar for an award which will
be announced in Dubai on October 2.
Steve Hagerty, General Manager of HMS Host and the "South Bar
and Café" says the finalists were told they are on a "roll-call of
excellence."
"That's a great place to start," he says, "but it really is a
huge achievement to be recognised as the only Southern Hemisphere
finalist. "
Mr Hagerty says the appeal of the bar is simple.
"It is quintessentially South Island, "he says. "It
highlights many of the iconic South Island images travellers come
to New Zealand to see. The bar offers different zones, so visitors
find a spot to suit their taste - literally. That's from
formal fine dining at a white-clothed table to rosemary flavoured
fries at the bar, or tapas with views over the airfield. We offer
live music on Thursday nights, as part of the famous southern
hospitality.
"Being named a finalist makes me proud
and excited for Christchurch. After all we have been through in the
past three years. It's exciting to get worldwide recognition for
our re-emergence as a place which offers food, beverage, fun and
great surroundings."
The world recognised Foodie Report
describes the list of FAB finalists as "a compelling snapshot of
the best in travel-related, revenue-generating food and beverage
operations worldwide."
