Departures

Baggage

Baggage allowances vary by airline. To find out your exact baggage allowance contact your airline directly.

Check-in Times

Allow at least 40 minutes for domestic flights and 2 hours for international flights when checking-in.  For more specific information regarding check-in,  contact your airline directly.

Sleeping at the airport

We actively discourage people from sleeping in the terminal or using it as an accommodation space.  Anyone in the terminal late at night or early in the morning should expect to be questioned about their need to be here.

Bona fide air travellers who can prove they have flown in late or are flying out early will be permitted to rest in a chair for those few hours.

In other words, at least one part of the travel which sees you access the airport terminal at night must be a flight, arriving after 10.30pm or departing before 8am the next morning.

Travellers who can show staff travel documents detailing travel within those timeframes will be permitted to stay here, seated in a chair and respecting all requests made of them by our staff.

Our staff assist all others with longer-term plans to take up accommodation offerings across the Christchurch area, for which we provide real-time information each evening.

The check-in hall opens at 3.30am every morning to people checking in for early flights.

Possible Airport Delays

Christchurch International Airport is building a new terminal.  It is advisable to expect occasional delays and therefore allow more time when travelling to the airport.  We'll make sure that we have the latest development updates on this website, so you can find out how your airport experience may be affected.

Departure Charge for International Flights

You do not need to pay a separate departure charge at Christchurch Airport as it is included as part of the airfare costs.

Baggage allowances vary by airline. To find out your exact baggage allowance contact your airline directly.
