Scott Callaway to head ‘South’

A well-known tourism marketer has been appointed to manage the 'South' initiative.

Scott Callaway will join 'South', based at Christchurch Airport, from his current dual role as Marketing Manager for the Hanmer Springs Thermal Pools and Spa  and the Hurunui Districts tourism organisation.

Announcing the appointment, Christchurch Airport CEO Jim Boult said Mr Callaway brings a wealth of experience to the role.

"Scott is a proven tourism marketing executive with commercial acumen and an extensive range of national and international experience," says Mr Boult.

"He has been in his Hanmer and Hurunui roles for the past seven years and before that worked with the AJ Hackett Bungy Group, Air New Zealand and in America for the US Pro Ski Tour. He has also worked for international advertising agencies Carat Inc and The Event Group both in New Zealand and America. We look forward to him joining us fulltime in the New Year."

Scott says he is delighted to join the 'South' initiative to market the South Island as a whole tourism destination, with all players working collectively and collegially.

"The South Island offers stunning scenery, amazing attractions and fantastic hospitality. Visitors spend more time and more money in the South Island, which are very important factors in the recovery of Christchurch," he says.

"Delivering on much-promoted promises to overseas visitors of New Zealand being full of snow-capped mountains, fiords, beautiful lakes and friendly people is only possible in the South Island.

"I have enjoyed watching 'South' evolve to this point and am very keen to work with all the South Island's regional tourism organisations and operators to take it to the next level."
