Buying a cup of coffee in Christchurch Airport's Underground
Coffee cafe won Christchurch resident Margot Deveraux a $10,000
trip to Europe. "I'm absolutely delighted," said Margot. "I lost my
house in the February earthquake and have had to move four times
since, so it's great to get a piece of good news."
Twenty thousand people entered the competition, which was
designed to promote the new first floor retail area in the
airport's new terminal. The prize was a trip for two to Europe
flying Emirates. Margot plans to head to Italy with her partner and
go on a cruise around the Mediterranean, visiting coastal towns in
Italy, Spain, Greece and Turkey.
Margot heads off in August and is grateful she came to the
airport the day she entered the competition. "I think they've done
a brilliant job of the new foodcourt and retail area - and I'm not
just saying that because I won. That lucky cup of coffee was great,
too!" said Margot.
Stage One of Christchurch Airport's new terminal opened in May,
and the 1st floor foodcourt and retail area has
proved extremely popular with travellers. "We've heard numerous
comments that we now have the best airport food in New Zealand,"
said Marketing Manager Jade Reeves. A number of businesses
have relocated to the area around the airport and many people now
come to the airport for lunch.
