Airport achieves ranking in World Airport awards

For the first time, Christchurch International Airport has won rankings in the international Skytrax World Airport™ awards, achieving second place for Staff Excellence and third place for Best Regional Airport in the Australia/Pacific category.

Gold Coast Airport was the winner in both categories.

"We're thrilled with this achievement, especially given that our airport is still in the middle of a major construction process," said Chief Executive of Christchurch Airport, Jim Boult. "These awards are based on questionnaires from millions of passenger surveys, which means that our philosophy of providing the best facilities with friendly South Island service is really working."

The World Airport Awards™ are based on survey results from 11.38 million questionnaires completed by over 100 different nationalities of airline passengers in 2010/2011, covering more than 240 airports worldwide.

The survey evaluates traveller experiences across 39 different airport service and product factors - from check-in, arrivals, and transfers through to departure at the gate. Operating since 1999, the survey is held in highest esteem for its clarity of process and rigorously applied rules of complete independence.

The World Airport Awards announcements comes in the same week that Christchurch Airport won the Oceania Routes Airport Marketing Award for the second time, ahead of Auckland, Melbourne and Sydney Airports.

In 2009, Christchurch Airport won all three levels of Routes marketing awards: Oceania, Asia-Pacific and Global.
