Tourist’s spare change supports local causes

Rather than allowing unspent New Zealand currency to burn a hole in their pockets as they fly towards home, Canterbury's tourists have generously supported ten local charities by donating their spare change through the airport collection points.

This year, $9000 was collected in small change. Christchurch International Airport Ltd has also contributed $10,000 through its Christmas Community Fund, ensuring that nearly $20,000 is available to distribute to worthwhile causes.

Throughout the year, CIAL invites charities to apply for a share of the Christmas Fund. This year's recipients are:

  • Christchurch South Lions Club
  • Kiwanis
  • World Wildlife Fund
  • Koru Care CHCH Charitable Trust
  • Christchurch Women's Refuge Inc
  • Family Help Trust
  • Cystic Fibrosis Association of NZ
  • Southern DC3 Charitable Trust
  • Just Dollars Trust
  • English Language Partners Christchurch (Inc)
